le 13 décembre 1981, Gainsbourg riposte en achetant le manuscrit original de l’hymne national (135 000 F, soit 100 000 euros de 2021), vendu aux enchères à Versailles.

1979年、フランスの国歌「ラ・マルセイエーズ」をレゲエに編曲した Aux armes et caetera （「祖国の子供たちへ」）をリリースする。

1984年に競売で「ラ・マルセイエーズ」の原詩ににあたる、1833年に出版された『ライン軍のための軍歌』のオリジナル原稿を買い取ったとき、「破産する覚悟で望んだ」という本人の談がある。
